I am sure by now that most of you have noticed that the Fire Dept Scanner has been offline for quite some time.
My original intentions were to get the Fire Dept scanner on and then later bring up the LE Scanner (Sherriff's Office and Leesburg/Smithville PD's), however, due to my lack of Bandwidth using Wildblue's Satellitte Service, I cannot maintain a constant upload stream for the audio.
Wildblue offers up to a 5GB per month upload bandwidth restriction (With thier highest cost package) Which is only about half of the bandwidth needed to maintain a single 24/7 audio stream. I have tried just about everything possible to both talk them into selling me more upload bandwidth and find another source of Internet Service. But, in my very rural area and with no DSL or Cable available, satelitte is the only option. And with Wildblue and Hughesnet the only 2 options of that even. I have checked into hughesnet they have a very similar poilcy, so it wouldn't do me much good to make that change.
What it boils down to is that it would cost me $300-400 per month to have a commercial system instaled and I just can't afford that. I think it's robbery what they are charging for the service I have ($59.99 per month) for less than what most everyone else gets for $20-30 on DSL/Cable.
If anyone has any further suggestions or has a place that can host the scanner feed with unlimited bandwidth and you are close enough to the Lee County Jail to recieve a good signal via scanner, please let me know and I'll certainly help you set it up and provide the scanner for you to do it with.
Other than that, until the phone company and/or the Cable company expand into my area, (No plans in the immediate future I have been told) then the LCFD scanner will remain offline, Thus rendering the Scannlee Site dead for now. I promise I will bring it back online as soon as it is possible! Sorry for the inconvenience.
