If I am at a shortwave radio that displays in MHz and it is showing a display of
2.696 MHz

I know this is 2,000,696,000 Hz

But if I go to a shortwave radio that displays in kHz and I want to listen to the same FREQ what do I put in?

The decimal system is the simplest of all, to change units move the decimal point. Everything is times 10 to the left as in the above example or divided by 10 to the right.

If I am on a radio and it is displaying in MHz and it says 2696 MHz I sould read it as 2 million 6 hundred and 96 thousand Hz

Now if I am on a radio that displays in kHz and it displays 2696 kHz would I read it as 2 million 6 hundred and 96 thousand Hz

2.696 MHz is 2 million 6 hundred and 96 thousand Hz (note the decimal point)
2,696 KHz is 2 million 6 hundred and 96 thousand Hz (note the comma)
2 MHz is 2,000 KHz

OK I think I have it.

A radio that displays in MHz will say 2.696MHz and it will put a Decimal Point after the two.
A radio that displays in kHz will say 2,696 kHz but it will put a Comma after the two.

And I know some radios that display in kHz will not show the Comma I get this.

But what I never got is this?
if a radio displays 2.696 MHz and you see it on another readio as 2,696 kHz it is the same FREQ.

Now I know 1 kHz = 1,000 they put the k so they don't have to put all the zeros I get it. So they can display 2,696 kHz and the kHz tells to you to read it out as 2,696,000 Hz.

So if I see a display as 2.696 MHz does this not tell me to read it out as 2,696,000,000 Hz?

Because M means to ad six zeros?

No!() M does not mean to add six zeros, it means to move the decimal 6 places so 2.696 MHz = 2,696,000 Hz. Or in other words...

2.696 MHz = 2,696 KHz (decimal moved three places to the right) = 2,696,000 Hz (decimal moved six places to the right). These would all be the same frequency just using a different notation to identify them.

You are making this WAY, WAY, more complicated than its needs to be. It's just

2-6-9-6 kHz
2-point-6-9-6 MHz

On phone numbers do you say
925-555-1212
Nine billion, two hundred fifty five million, five hundred fifty one thousand two hundred and twelve?

No. You just read it.
2-6-9-6 kHz
2-point-6-9-6 MHz.

That's it.

Actually 2,000,696,000 hz=2.000696 GHz (gigahertz).

Back to your example:
2,696,000 hz can also be expressed as
2,696 khz (decimal moved 3 positions to the left) which can also be expressed as
2.696 Mhz (decimal moved 3 more postions to the left) which can also be expressed as
.002696 GHz (decimal moved 3 more positions to the left) which can also be expressed as
.000002696 THz (Terahertz)(decimal moved 3 more positions to the left) .

As kb2vxa and k9wg said it's that easy. Like any metric measurement, all that's done is moving the decimal 3 positions either way.

Clear now?
