Scanner Advice

hey guys, i have a friend that wants to monitor Atlanta and the nearby Metro counties ( Dekalb, Fulton Clayton...etc etc)

which would be the best scanner for him for like 100-150 out the wallet?

I don't think you will get a good scanner that will do P25 (DeKalb) for that price range. eBay would be a good place to start.

About the lowest cost digital unit that does the job for these P25 TRS systems is the Radio Shack PRO-106. I got one off ebay a few months ago. It was nearly new, still under warranty in the box, for $280 which also included the shipping. Works great and I have absolutely no complaints. They are new from RS for $399.

As with anything on ebay, make sure you buy from a reputable seller with some period, usually a week, right to return. Also make sure all the accessories for the radio that normally come with it are there. You usually will have to setup a Paypal account as well as register with ebay. Some great deals, just have to be cautious.

He's going to have to do without most of the metro area. Fulton is the only analog trunked system. ATL, De Kalb, Gwinnett, Cobb, Forsyth all digital, P-25. Some of the southern metro area is conventional and LTR. An inexpensive analog will allow him to listen to those.

yeah that i know, Clayton is ALL Analog. but he lives in Downtown. soo something just to listen to ATL and maybe Fulton

Again, ATL is a digital P25 system which means a 106/500 or a digital Uniden. I monitor it on my 106.
