Greetings all, new to RR,but not too new to radios/scanners. But not a pro.
Dragged out my old scanner and got the bug. I know digital is taking over. But putting a discone in my attic to help my reception and was reading about making these big coax rf chokes. My question is: Are these chokes basically for transmitting? Obviously, I'm receiving only so I thought I'd need just some ferrite snap ons near the feed to help minor interference.
I'm hoping this is the case.
Anyone have a moment for some input?

thank you.

Yes, chokes on the coax are used (needed?) for transmitting. Depending on the antennas match to the coax some RF energy can return on the outside of the coax shield back to the transmitter (not SWR). A choke or ferrite beads can reduce this effect.

What kind of interference do you have that you are trying to reduce?

Thanks for the come back. I thought I was getting some noise from my immediate surroundings at my office desk such as monitors and computers and maybe even the network cable that passes by within a foot or so. So, I thought putting on a couple ferrite snap ons near the scanner ant cable may stop any noise if I was getting that. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about those chokes since I don't transmitt.
Thanks.
