Hey guys im trying to find a scanner antenna whip with a 3/8:-24 thread. Im removing my cars rear mounted AM/FM antenna, and attaching a stud mount. But I can't seem to find a scanner antenna.

P.S. - What type of cable can I use? Ohm's wise, they make 50 and 75 ohm. Which one do I use? What do CB's use?

The chicken band would be like most other two way installs and use 50ohm coax. For a scanner you could run 75ohm if really want to, can't see why you would in a car though.

http://www.hamstick.com/ sells ham radio and scanner antennas, some with the thread you want. Here are a few.....

Well...I'm not sure what you mean by chicken band. But will any other these antenna work? Will they cover the same range that the ducky (6inch) antenna covers now? I don't no a whole lot about scanners. All I know is that my recpetion sucks in my car, compared to outside.

Chicken Band = CB :D

For general scanning use, the http://www.hamstick.com/edbw.htm antenna would do a pretty good job. It's precut for the 144 & 440 amateur radio bands that are just under the VHF & UHF public safety range. If you are trying to listen to users in the 150-160 & 450-470 range then that antenna should do ok, it's cheap enough to try it and looks like an old external cell antenna so it's likely to not be noticed by many.

There are just not too many scanner antennas made for the thread you need, mostly CB and ham band antennas. That being said, you should be able to find something that works for you. Feel free to ask away and we can see how to help.

Maybe I'll just slap a motorola to bnc connection on their and run it to my scanner. How do you think that would work?
