Scanner antenna

GREETINGS,

My wife and I recently moved from alpharetta, Ga, To Duluth, Ga, And we are living in an apartment called ambermill apts off on old Norcross road near sweet water rd., And the reception is terrible I am not picking up to much here, except off and on i'll pick up dekalb county, But with like fulton cobb, roswell and alpharetta, and the others I'm not picking up nothing, I went out and bought a heavy duty scanner antenna that is some what like a cb antenna for vehicles, My wife suggested that I take the scanner & the antenna up stairs, I did and I'm pretty much picking up all that are listed, Roswell, Fulton, Alpharetta, Forsyth, Dekalb, Cobb, Johns creek and others.

Is there any suggestion what I can do or buy to beef up the reception or booster, And what I should I do and what I will need to do. Directions etc...And how can I do this for the down stairs apt, Like I said I have reception up stairs and receiving .

Put a mobile antenna on a groundplane upstairs, run the coax downstairs to your scanner.

What band/frequencies? Also tell us more about your antenna, or post a picture if you can.

Kevin, from a ground floor apartment, you are going to have a hard time receiving Forsyth county. I live in N Gwinnett very close to Forsyth and there are times I have a problem hearing them.
Fulton county and the other systems will be almost impossible to monitor as well from your apartment unless you have a west facing window.
DeKalb should be OK.
Cobb is changing to a Phase II system. It is all but impossible to hear them from anywhere in the county. Their analog system could be heard over a large area years ago.
Just so you know, Cobb and Forsyth are on a combined Phase II system.
Of course you know Gwinnett is fully encrypted.
I have found over the years that too much antenna causes more problems then fixing them. What scanner are you using?
Also, the apartment building itself is going to cause you problems trying to receive.

It's nice that out of the area people are trying to help, but knowing the terrain and the systems involved makes a difference.
