Hi,

I have Scanrec from davee.com. I have a question about it though. When it is recording, and the scanner is hooked up to the computer, is there a way to let the sound come though the speaker so you can hear what is being recorded, while it is recording? If not, do you know of a software package that can do that?

I can not tell you about the Scanrec program, as I have never used it. But, I use Xcorder available from www.xcorder.com. It can be setup to let the sound come through your computers speakers. It is a free program, and I have had no problems with it. It has a feature that will create a new file every hour for easier archiving and organizing, that is why I like it.

:D

Just get a splitter at Radio Shack so you can plug in your speakers and a patch cord.

thanks man. I live in the Columbus area, and a few hours ago, i heard the dispatcher put a run out for an aircraft crash into water! I immediately rushed to hook it up to my computer to record it. I couldnt hear sound, so i couldn't hear the quality. When i checked out what i recorded, it was all staticky. couldnt understand it. I didnt hear 1 bit of that incident. DAMN DAMN DAMN!!

Thanks,
Colin :D

I have used Scanrec and ID Tracker to record from my 250D. I haven't had any problems hearing the scanner through the speakers on the computer. Check your settings on the audio mixer in Windows and make sure you don't have something turned down or muted.

mdulrich, i checked the settings and i tried it again on scanrec. If i turn my speakers up all the way, i can faintly hear the sound, but it is very garbled. Any other suggestions? It still isnt working

Hi Colin;

You can double-click on the speaker icon in the system tray to bring up the volume control. You should see a slider control for each audio source along with a master volume control for the speaker.

Under "Microphone" there should be a Mute checkbox. Make sure that checkbox is clear. Anything coming into the microphone input should be audible through the speakers.

If the audio is faint (probably needs more gain) or distorted (probably too much gain), try these steps:

At the top left corner is an Options menu. Check Options -> Advanced. With this option checked, some computers will display an "Advanced" button below the microphone volume control.

If available - click the "Advanced" button. A new popup window will appear with options specific to your sound hardware. Some systems will have an adjustable microphone gain - this may be another slider control or a check-box. Mine shows a "+20db gain" checkbox.

Since your audio source is line-level audio, you probably don't want any microphone gain. Try recording from the line input instead of the microphone input.
