I recently acquired a Radio Shack PRO-97 scanner. Works well but a bear to program.

Question: When listening to the Melbourne, FL area police/fire, at the end of each transmission there is a series of beeps. I don't mind but it's driving my wife NUTS!!

Any help/ideas?

What you are hearing is likely a data protocol known as MDC1200. It is often used to send the radio/unit ID over the radio at the beginning or end of transmissions. Dispatchers will see this info so they know who the transmissions come from.

Often, those MDC1200 tones are sent from the radio without a CTCSS tone, so if your radio will support that sort of tone squelching, you may be able to block it out.

old name

i see edacs so the old name is anti-scanner tones
some used to play "we bring good things to life" beeps
my 396t cuts these out so maybe there is a setting on yours that will
did you set it up for edacs "ed"
and must put the channels in order and ch1 has to be ch1

just being picky

edacs tones are not ctcss tones.
edacs tones come into play at the end of transmission
ctcss tones are from end to end of transmission, its how the radio unmutes.
