Not sure what happened to this feed. Thinking about buying a scanner. Not sure what kind of scanner would be useful to use.

I would recommend the Uniden BCD436HP with the DMR upgrade.

Along with the other suggestions, you could go with a Whistler WS1065 or WS1040.

The system you want to monitor (Indian Hoosier SAFE-T) is Phase 1 and not simulcast in Johnson County so these would work well and would cost a whole lot less than the Uniden models.

Thanks. I really appreciate that.

You will need both DMR and NXDN along with P25 for JoCo. Pub Safety has a NXDN Conventional system for backup and talkaround/alternate Firegrounds. And County DPW has conventional NXDN. Greenwood uses DMR for DPW/Roads.

Depends what all you want to listen to. If you just want to listen to day-to-day public safety on the IPSC 800 MHz system (SAFE-T P25) then even something older like a used PRO-2096 or PRO-96 would be fine. I'm still using a PRO-2096 that I bought new in 2005.

But yes, if you want to listen to D/\/\R and NXDN, you are going to need something newer. None of the primary public safety operations are on D/\/\R or NXDN though.

Just a word of caution. DeKalb County isn't considered to be in a "simulcast area" yet the 536hp compared to an SDS100 was night and day, with the SDS100 receiving transmissions while the 536hp was intermittent as simulcast behavior is. If you can get someone in the area to either bring a scanner over, or let you borrow it to check performance might be a better route before purchasing and then regret it. If you plan on any traveling in and around Indiana, an SDS scanner might be a little more expensive, but avoid the frustration later.

And considering your neighbor to the north is fully on an simulcast, the Shelby County part of SAFE-T and Hendricks are both simulcasts....
