scanner freq ?

i know this is going to sound stupid but does anyone know what this means

i know the first is a freq but whats the () mean . is that a second freq, a trunk, etc,

a sub audio sound that is transmitted and it tells the receiver to break squelch when on.
kind of like a secret handshake.
some scanner can use the info and some can not.
also called ctcss.
google is your friend.

so that means the first freq is the actual freq and the () would be the squelch ( ctcss) value???? does that sound right?

yes,
and it would work like this
where i grew up, in bergen county new jersey.
the county used 155.55 (156.7)
and across the river was westchester county on
155.55 (192.8)
they could not hear each other. they used the PL thing.
but with a scanner with no PL i could hear them both.
it worked fine by me as the closer county stuff was "grabbed" by my scanner due to the capture effect.
now that i have a scanner with PL on it i could just listen to westchester, unless the closer county opens a mic and then all is lost. i would hear nothing.
