Can anyone please suggest the best online source for monitoring emergency (fire and accident) events in Philadelphia? There are a number of options on Broadcastify and I'd appreciate any experienced listeners views on which provides the most complete information for reporters.

Broadcastify only lists two Fire zones. north and south. pick the one where the repoorter is at. If the reporter wants to view the scene, zones where they are closer makes sense.

sometimes police monitoring you can get a heads up, sometimes the fire gives you a heads up. Actually if the fire beat is what the reporter wants, police traffic about speeders, family disputs, who shot who, would just take time to screen that out. Now traffic about an accident, and the police asking for rescue, you could get a heads up prior to the fire getting dispatched. As Captaincab says, a scanner would be the most current method as several computer feeds are delayed 15 min to 30 mins because police and fire have "secrets" and they want to take care of them prior to onlookers showing up. Police think the bad guys are monitoring so their traffic is delayed. Most modern scanners are too complex for wantabes. They have a hard time keeping their pants up, let alone a scanner programmed.

Thanks teufler and captaincab. What our company (audiblebroadcasting.com) does is to provide audible, up-to-the-minute traffic reports right on your iPhone or Android device. We are in all of FL's major metros and are setting up our first systems and apps in Philly and the NE. Having this informaiton is not essential, there are a lot of other tools and resources our reporters use, but it can be very helpful in gettign a few minutes of lead in reporting traffic problems.

Our Philadelphia reporter is a native but now is in FL beyond the scanners reach. I assume that a PC is the only way to get a feed without being up there, which means it will be delayed 15-30 minutes which doesn't help. If you had any suggestions or knew any resources/persons that are available I'd appreciate knowing about them.

Auto accident calls over the police radio are generally dispatches over the MDT. This is because of the many wreck chasing tow trucks in Philadelphia. The initial fire department dispatch also masks auto accident calls, but eventually any major accident would be known. It's all about experience listening to the radio lingo.

PennDOT also has a live traffic map and many live traffic cameras online. 511PA

On the highway is a good clue to an accident if they dispatch a engine or ladder company along with the medics.
