There is at lease five towers in my county for my fire, sheriff, and EMS depts. One tower is at the county jail witch is in jasper the main city . And two towers are in the other two small citys in my county. Then there is a tower right near my house. When i go two jasper i get good service with my scanner. But when i am at home it is all static and horrible. I am about 15 miles from jasper. Can someone please tell me why dosen't my scanner run off of the tower near my house and if there is something that i can do about it ? Why dose it run off of the tower at the jail in jasper ? Also the sheriff's dispatch is at the jail if that helps.

'Run off'? You mean transmit from? And I'm going to make a wild guess that you are in Wyoming? What scanner and antenna are you using? More information is needed here.

Sounds like a better antenna is in order here. 15 miles on VHF frequencies in hilly or mountainous terrain on a little duckie (that little stick like antenna that comes with handhelds) is pushing the limits of what it can hear.

If you have questions regarding your state, please post it in that state's forum. We have a dedicated forum for antenna issues as well.

i am from Florida. but what i am saying is that i should be get a better signal. because my scanner should run off the tower near my house and not the one 15 miles away. or am i wrong? yea you are right about that antenna. but i was just wondering why this is so.

Depends On Numerous Things.. Here in my county we have four towers just for Sheriff's Office Comms but only the one at the Sheriff's Office Transmitts out.. The other Three are Transmitt to repeater.. If a car that is transmitting on one frequency is close it will pick up that tower and it will send the signal to the main one.. Hence they're transmitt only, Not recieve which could be part of it.. Also Are they all on the same frequency, Yes they would probably carry the same comms as the main one but some of them are on a different frequency.. Have you checked this? Just curious, Hope this helps..

Wrong Forum?? ??

again , you would do better to ask in your home state forum?

FWIW: I checked his Info/Profile and there is no info that shows his state - HOWEVER, there IS a Jasper FL off 75 in N. FL.. (as well as our GA Jasper further north ) :)

so... IS he in FL or GA, if anyone knows?

In the land of make believe
He was asked what state he was in and never answered. If he bothered he might get correct information.
If it is a smartzone trunked system he might have different control channels.
Also as someone said in a different manner, the 4 other antennas if they are part of the system they might be remote receivers.

More information from the person in Jasper (where) sure would help.

I wish users would read before they post.
The above two posts are instances of people who can type but not apparently read. Or, if they can read, they pay no attention whatever to what they have read. These posts were made in the Florida forum, after the thread was moved there and way after the OP stated he was in FL.
