Duo saves cop, K-9 after crash

A North Carolina man teamed up with his son to rescue a deputy and his K-9 from a burning car after they
crashed into tree during a high-speed chase with four armed car thieves, police said.

Curtis Blanton was listening to a police scanner at home with his 17-year-old son, Pete, when they heard about the crash, WBTV re-ports. The Blantons rushed to the scene and got Cleveland County Deputy Robert Taylor away from the burning car, as well as his K-9, Thanos.

Numerous times throughout the years I called in vehicles and or persons which were wanted according to police communications bolo transmissions. I was in the limousine business for years and spent 7 days on the road while having a police scanner in the vehicle and helped out local police departments numerous times

The mods also take a dim view of political discussions, which also often descend into arguments. We used to have a Politics forum in the Tavern, but closed it because of the endless arguments.

That said, let's keep this thread focused on scanner listeners assisting law enforcement and leave the off topic back-and-forth to some other thread.

I know here in Boone County some transmissions are periodically encrypted and I'm okay with that, if it's sensitive information then by
all means, encrypt it. The amount of litigation against law enforcement today is insane (some warranted obviously) so you have to do what you
have to do. I remember back in the late 70's listening to the local police, fire and EMS on my Bearcat 210 programmable scanner. You got the whole 9, full name, DOB, SOC Number, criminal record and on and on. Rightfully so, those days are gone. The vast majority of scanner enthusiasts are diligent law abiding listeners but it only takes a few of the nefarious folks to ruin it for the rest of us.
