Scanner in dash

I was wondering if I do put my scanner in the dash, do i have to put in a external speaker, or could i still hear it through the dash with the volume turned up?

Probably will not work unless your car is so old the dash is open to the floor area; there are lots of small speakers you can get that work very well.

My 996T is in the dash of my 2006 Nissan XTerra with an extension speaker that is under the driver's seat. Works great, wouldn't want to have to turn up the sound to get through the dash.

You could probably hook it up through your radio speakers if you didn't want to add one. A small one under the dash near the steering column would be good too.

Some vehicles have a slotted section of dash where the the key/door alarm speaker is. You could replace that with one hooked up to your scanner and move the original one somewhere else (most people are tired of that buzzer any ways).
