I'm can't tell you definitively, but I don't see why it would be a problem. I would use headphones just to be courteous though.

How many cops will be on a greyhound bus, much less stopping one to search it?

Just be discrete and you shouldn't have a problem.

JUST DO IT!!! I have driven through kentucky with mine mobile monitoring the cb channel. Also through Indiana when i visit family there but monitor coppers. In florida too. Just do the speed limit and don't catch the eyes of the coppers speeding etc.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Taken the scanner on many a bus ride - it's never been a problem. Just wear headphones and if people ask, tell them it's a cell phone.

"that's a cell phone?"

Yeah numbnuts, it's a cell phone.

As for cops, be prepared at least at some point along the way to have one get on the bus and ask people where they are headed. I must have looked suspicious because he asked me twice. Must've been my "cell phone" that told him I was trouble.

If you look like a terrorist, you'll have no problems.
But if you are a 70 year old, grey haired lady with a walker, they might make you take your shoes off and take you to a back room and strip search you.

Heck, try to get some greyhound freq's and keep a tab on your driver.
Try 170.250/ 464.5

I would scan my way all busride long.

Most cops will say cool scanner, but there is always the bad apple. The bad apple would probably run a check on you for warrants then say cool scanner have a nice trip.

Wear some I Pod like ear buds no one will bat an eye.

Its sad our hobby is looked down upon by the general public, "He has a police scanner, he must be a criminal." It burns me up!!!

Do what I do;
put your radios in a small gym bag that says "Secure Communications Team" on the side. :)

Of course, if you did not go to the school, you don't have the bag.

(It does get some really odd looks!)

Me too.
It seems to be a common issue on this group.
Yes there are a few states with stupid scanner laws, but they are in the minority.

As for carrying a scanner on a bus, on a plane, in a cab, on your hip, in your hand, in your baggage, etc etc etc, other than those few places its illegal, stop worrying. (unless you are a expert at failing the attitud test!)

I've had a scanner since 1987 to get the unedited version of local news and live events like what happened on 3-11 in Atlanta. Also I have used a scanner to track traffic on the freeways so when there is a wreck or road closure I can go around and avoid it.
Also, I have gotten some good laughs from some calls and the stupidity of people.
