Wonder if there's any place where you can rent a scanner like the Uniden 396T? I wouldn't mind doing that just to see how it goes with the frequencies of my area.

Radio Shack sells them and has a 30-day return policy if you're not satisfied.

If you used a credit card, they credit back. If you paid that amount in cash, they mail you a refund check. It takes about 2-weeks.

The furniture & appliances Rent to Own places around my area rent scanners. They usually only have the cheaper non-trunking models for around $60 to $100 a monh.
