My SDS200 resets each time I crank the vehicle. I presume due to voltage drop, etc.
Has anybody here added something in-line with the power cord with success, to keep this from happening?
If so, what is recommended?

Thanks in advance

I bought a nice used SDS200 and this came with it and works nice in the car to stop what is happening with you.
$61 at Amazon.

A couple of questions here.
1. Has it always reset since it was installed in the car or did it just recently start behaving this way?
2. How old is your car battery?
This is a common problem with car batteries as they age.

Starter voltage sag is probably the cause. A quick and dirty method would be to grab a 12 volt exit light from HD, Lowes.
Then hook it to your main battery and add isolation diodes that can handle at least 2A. And of course a fuse between them.
Hook your radio to the second battery. I said quick and dirty, and it is.
Better. Do the same. But search and use one of these from eBay. About 13 bucks.

Dual Battery Isolator 12V 50Amp, Voltage Sensitive Relay VSR

Depending on the size of the battery you choose. With the ignition off you should get a few hours of scanning time.
Hey man, it's just a couple of ways.

It's always done it. I usually remember to turn it off, sometimes I forget. Takes forever to load back up.

That's what the delay is for. It won't turn on until after your vehicle is running. That was my solution to the exact problem you're having.

If I am driving, and stop for fuel, etc., and turn my vehicle off, then back on, the scanner re-boots.

I am trying to keep it alive the entire time

Oh, I think we're talking about to different situations then. I use mine to add a delay to make sure the radio doesn't turn on until after the engine is running. If I stop for gas I turn my radio off. If you're needing it to stay on for short stops I would go with something like the small UPS posted earlier.

power loss upon cranking, causing it to re-boot
I have this exact UPS powering my home router, node, and Wyze camera base station. When the power goes out, they all continue working. That is why it is called an Uninterruptible Power Supply. When you crank your vehicle the voltage drops, but the scanner will still receive 12 volts from the UPS.

I cringe a little bit when I think about actually having my SDS 200 turned on before I start my car and cranking the engine with the radio on.. I know there are ways to do it but..😱

As with any electronic equipment I make sure the radio is off until after I start the car and turn the radio off before I turn the car off, just an old habit.

Sometimes the scanner isn't first and foremost in my mind when I go to crank up.
My KW nor Mot radios do this, nor the '996P2, just the SDS200. I presume it is more sensitive to voltage swings.

I am mainly looking at what others have successfully done about this, surely I'm not the only one with this issue.
I appreciate the constructive replies, I see some that will likely do what I need 👍🏻

Which is a good sign. The SDS probably needs just a little bit of "babying".

Just think of the fun you'd have with one of those engine stop/start vehicles.

We had some vehicles where the radio couldn’t afford to reboot every time somebody started the vehicle.

So what we did was get some super capacitors that are designed for the car audio industry and put it across the power supply leads for the radio. Problem solved.

Could you go into a bit more detail please? This sounds interesting. The power only drops for a second or so, this may work.
