I'm trying to consider an upgrade to my Pro-95 and would like to put my hands on a Pro-106 and a Home Patrol as my leading options. Other than Radio Shack (which doesn't even sell Uniden), I'm unaware of any good retailers that will fit my needs. Even RS is kind of lame because the sales guys have no idea about scanners the stock. I remember Gateway Electronics used to sell scanners, but they quit. Any ideas?

Outside of Radio Shack none that I can think of. But you can find a better price online anyway often with no tax and free shipping

There's that CB and scanner shop in St. Charles but I've always thought they were a little pricey.

Evey time I go into RatShack I feel like I'm actually teaching those guys something and telling them about their products.

The point was to see the two side by side and judge their functionality in a direct comparison. I'm aware that online will give me better pricing, but that wasn't the point. I was just hoping St. louis was a big enough city to support a radio shop staffed by radio guys. Ironically, that store isn't the one by the name of Radio Shack. I appreciate the feedback though. I've been to that CB store before back when I had a Jeep. They were insanely expensive. I didn't notice them having any scanner stuff. I may check back.

He has scanners now but watch the prices! Your right, it's insanely expensive.

I bought an antenna there for $25 more than what I could have bought it for online. My dad is crazy about that place for some reason. I tell him not to go there and he still returns.

I understand he isn't to be able to match the prices of the big boys and I'm all about patronizing the local places but $25 more for an antenna and $50-100+ for a scanner? I'll take my business elsewhere. Every time I go in there the clientele doesn't come off as the internet savy/radiorefrence.com type, so I'm betting they have never even looked online.

Uniden's website say they be found at the following:

ABC Warehouse
Amazon.com
Bass Pro Shops
Best Buy
Bi-Mart
BoatersWorld
BrandsMart USA
Cabela's
Communications Electronics
Costco
Consumer's Marine
Electronic Express
Electronics-Expo
Fingerhut
Fisheries SupplyFred Meyer
Fry's
Hammacher Schlemmer
Home Depot
JC Penney
J&R
Lectron
Office Depot
Sam's Club
Sears
Office Max
Shopko
Staples
Target
Walmart
West Marine

I've been in all the stl area stores on that last and haven't seen any scanners.

I looked really close at that same list online too. Those retailers only sell them over the web, not in their stores. Very disappointing.

I went ahead and just picked up a Pro-106 before the sale expired. I haven't fooled with it yet, but will when I get back from this business trip. Can wait.

I finally got a chance to program in some St. Louis area freqs today. I used my premium membership to download from the RR database. It's extremely overwhelming how many scan groups there are on the radio. I really don't understand what sort of strategy to use to efficiently monitor all these freqs. St. Louis is a frequency rich area, so the choices are many. I haven't really figured out my main listening goals yet. The sound quality is mighty good though.

Who are you trying to listen to at the moment? I split my time between St. Charles co and St. Louis City so those are the two areas I listen to. In addition to LE and Fire/EMS, I have some of the HAM channels programmed, weather spotters, and a couple stl sport venues. When I'm in STL City, I like to just scan late at night. You pick up stuff you never new existed. When I had a layover in DFW, I started messing with my scanner in the airport. There was literally something on nearly every frequency. I felt like I was watching Cops.
