Scanner "skipping" on UHF band

I have my scanner set up with 3 lowband and 4 UHF band frequencies. Well my local county's UHF frequency comes in fine but the neighboring county's med sometime has a "skipping" classification. Or a ticking type activity to it. I was wondering what it was or what would cause it. I have my antenna cut to the correct lengths for UHF. It is currently in the crawlspace of my house.

Just looking for a reason why this might happen and a way to fix it.

It,s probably just pager transmissions.

What do you mean? While county is talking and paging other counties out, it skips. Like the audio...skips

Does this "skipping" sound like a chirp?

It's Possible that the distant countys med could get mixed in with other transmissions, or possibly a local system may be causing it such as a pager transmission. This is only my thoughts, sorry if it does'nt help.

It could also be a control channel burst.

Well it has never done this before. It's not like the transmission is unreadable, you can hear it all but it's kinda like the sound a Nextel makes when it interferes with speakers but it's not the same. I own a Nextel so I know the differences in the sounds.

By any chance do you have another scanner going at the same time? I have also gotten that ticking sound and finally got it narrowed down to one of the other scanners as it sweeps through the channels. Just one of those LO vs IF things. :lol:

No. I just have one scanner. I have computer equipment near it but I have never had this problem before...
