Scanner suddenly stopped working

I have a Radio Shack scanner, about two weeks ago it stopped picking up police talk. To the best of my knowledge local police department has not switched to digital. I still get the local fire department but that's it.
I've already tried resetting it and unplugging it for several hours.

Would anyone have an idea what could be wrong with my scanner?

Without knowing more about what systems you are trying to listen to, it's hard to answer. But, if you can still hear the fire dept. but not the police dept., I doubt there is anything wrong with your scanner. Have you checked the RR database for changes to your local radio systems?
