Any suggestions for what scanner for the Lawton/Ft Sill/Duncan area?? I know the local police/sheriff are still the old style, but OHP has gone up to the 800 mhz so I miss most of their traffic. A friend has a Uniden Bearcat BCT8 but says his reception of OHP is poor. Looking over at the other sections it partly looks like I need digital for OHP but not sure. Thanks! OK

As far as OHP not digital now but will be, so something that will recieve digital would be a plus for you. Not sure about the others.

Lawton & Commanche County are both on OKWIN 800 but, as you noted, Duncan and Stephens County remain on VHF-Hi. Ft.Sill is running P25 on OKWIN.

Take all that together and I'd say you need a top-line, digital-capable scanner if you wish to monitor everything in the area. I'm partial to Uniden but that's just me and you should also check out possibilities from others.

Get a BCT15 via eBay. That model has been replaced by the BCT15X so the older ones should be well under $200. It trunks but does not do digital. You don't need a P25 digital scanner for OHP yet, so you can get away with analog, maybe for several years.

Get the Freescan software and, for $15, get a 6-month subscription to RadioReference. Freescan will allow you to import OHP (and anything else) directly to the software. Then you can load it into the scanner.

Pro 97/106. I have one of each and so when I'm away from my vehicle I can still listen and they are programmed the same. They do trunking and are digital. You can usually find them on sale in a six-month period at Radio Shack. Fort Sill is digital so you might as well not limit yourself so just go ahead and go digital!
