I'm interested in purchasing a scanner to listen to public service agencies here in the upstate. Specifically fire/police/ems in the Clemson/Central area and perhaps Pickens and Oconee Counties or SCHP. Untilities such as Duke might be interesting too. I'm a bit overwhelmed reading some of this stuff and have no idea if I need a digital scanner or what would be the best type. Most of my monitoring would likely be done in the house while playing on the computer.

I'd like to limit the cost of the scanner to less than $500. So, please make some scanner suggestions and tell me why you think the one you suggest is a good choice for me. I may ride down to HRO in Atlanta tomorrow and pick something up.

Thanks,

Digital is what you will need. Some Pickens Co is digital. Some State agencys, Greenville Sheriff Tac, Greenville City , All of Anderson Co. Each Co still has its VHF and UHF conventional. The PRO-197 seems to be the most popular in this area. Software is required with interface cable. $500 is the range. The Co that makes the Radio Shack/GRE scanners has shut down production. Their # is PSR-500. You can buy a pre-programmed scanner with internet upgrades for the same price. Contact me direct for other details. larryscan@charter.net
