Creek Co Sheriff deputies were out looking for a 9-10 year old boy that was wandering around west of Mounds; were coming up negative contact till a citizen that lived in the area called in and said he was monitoring radio traffic on his scanner, and had went out and found the boy!

on another note ,Do we really need fancy radio systems like in OKC to keep the general public from listening to law enforcement communications? I was on the fence till tonight, but I now say NO!

Ah, but is that the REAL reason why systems like OKC's are in place? Are they in place to prevent the general public from listening to law enforcement communications?

The only down side to systems like OKC it may be a good reason for the law enforcement side of the issue but the citizens don't see it that way makes them have thoughts of wanting to hide something from them although this is not the case. I know of alot of people whom I talked to who said they are not happy with the implementation of the new system and they would no longer support the FOP and vote in favor of raises and equipment for the public safety of OKC. This is where the actions could come back to hurt the city in the future. In law enforcement the citizens need the police and fire and the police and fire need the citizens.

Scrambled Radio....

In our little area of the world, we have the capability to scramble law enforcement, EMS/Fire and other traffic. HOWEVER, unless we are on a raid, some sort of situation that warrants it, are calling in the name of a DOA crash victim or some such thing, we NEVER turn on the capability. And, I think REASONABLE citizens understand that when the police are getting dope dealers "out of their neighborhood" it IS ACCEPTABLE to scramble communications to get that task completed !!! At least they do in our area... Steve/Gallia :p

I found a runaway in Claremore by listening to Claremore pd's radio traffic. This is just after they went to their new radio system. I called the pd by telephone and told them that I had seen the runaway that matched the discription that was broadcast over the radio. The dispacter sounded puzzled at what I had told her and sounded to be a little upset that I had heard their radio traffic and wanted to know who I was and how I was hearing their radio traffic. It turned out that this was the runaway that they were looking for. Chaulk one up for scanners.

When you turn scramble on, what does it sound like on a scanner? Is there static every time you transmit, or is it quiet? Just wondering, because everything I listen to is conventional.

Remember, the analog feeds for the OCPD digital system will be retrans on DPS here after a while. DPS has to figure out what they are going to do with rebanding first.
