Scanner VHF antenna

Hello,

I am in the process of figuring out how I want to set up my scanner antenna. Right now I have a PRO197 with a RadioShack VHF collapse able antenna. This works ok however I think I can do better. I have both a 1/4 wave or a 5/8(I think because it has a loading coil) VHF antenna that I want to mount to the side of our house. Right now the scanner is really fuzzy I think is mostly because it is close to my computer equipment. Which antenna should I use? It will be receive only and I know having a ground plane is an issue but I don't have a clue how this stuff works. Another issue is multipath. Our county uses a simulcast VHF p25 system.

Any comments or ideas are appreciated.

If simulcast distortion is an issue you may want to consider a Yagi directional antenna which you can aim at one specific tower.
