ScannerMaster 796D Status

I did a quick scan of the forums and didn't find an answer. Does anyone know why on ScannerMaster.com's website the 796D says "out of stock. No more available in the Country until January 2005"? I checked the Uniden website, didn't find anything particularly helpful there either. Some other scanner sites don't show this label.

USAScan.com says they have them in stock - what did ScannerMaster give as their explanation for none in the US?

No real explanation... just that they don't have any in stock and none expected in the country until January. Here's the site.

I checked with AES, and HRO, and USAScan was the other I checked. All of their sites show in stock.

I ask partially because a friend is wanting to buy a 796, and I was also looking at one to put in the mobile to match the one in the shack. (I have a 296 that I shuffle between the belt clip and the mobile installation. I hate to think of what's happening to the BNC connector on the radio.)
