Looking to purchase a scanner so I can listen to FCPD/FD. I am assuming it would have to be digital, and more then likely looking for a desktop one. Any ideas what would be the the best "bang for your buck"?

With the possibility of Fairfax going to TDMA your only choice (for now) is the PSR-800. I'm not sure what the county's plans are exactly, so it may not be an issue, but it's definitely something to be aware of.

Fairfax has no plans to implement TDMA anytime in the near future. Any digital P25 scanner should do the trick. If you want to hear Loudoun, you will need TDMA.

If I had to choose any scanner right now, it would be the PRS 800. Great radio for the price and easy to program and if you have not owned a scanner for a while, ease of programing is an issue. The Uniden Home Patrol is also an "easy to program" radio but I have never used one. The Uniden 996XT is a good desktop and works very well in Fairfax but I suggest you first look for a reconditioned one on eBay. Good luck.....
