I am planning on flying from Detroit to Connecticut in a few days. I was wondering if it is ok to keep my scanner in my carry-on ? It will be turned off the whole time. I dont plan on using it until I arrive in CT. Are there any rules about passing scanners through Security or carrying them on airplanes ?

I travel with mine all the time, you just can't use it on the airplane. Do a search of the forums you will find tons of dicussion on the topic.

You should have absolutely no problems. I, too, take mine on the plane with me since I don't trust the baggage handlers not to swipe it. Once I get through security, I sit near the window at my gate, pull the scanner out and listen to the tower. When it's time to board, I put it away.

We can tell what you meant by "oo". No need to create a new thread for a simple spelling correction. Welcome to RR. Also, you can click on Search and look up "airplane" or "airplanes" as this topic has been discuessed extensively. You'll be sure to find a wealth of information in prior threads.

To get you started, here's one that went on for several pages:

And here is a link to the wiki which has a page related to this:
