newbie here that is out of the loop and needs updated.

My local LEO'S have migrated to 800 megs. I have a hand held that goes there but I still do not receive there calls. My handheld is old, analog and not trunked. Do I need a radio that is trunked to receive these calls? Do I need to leap up to a trunked radio that is digital for my area here in Noble County, Indiana? What are your recommendations for someone on a fixed income without breaking the bank?

On some systems you can monitor a frequency in the 800 range but not track the conversation, you may get on side of it for sentence or two but with trunked systems they hop around.

You will need to upgrade your hardware to make scanning worthwhile. As far as doing without breaking the bank- keep an eye on the equipment for sale and watch the prices. Also keep an eye on Radio Shack sales- the pro 96 which they are eliminating will probably do what you need. It is not a bad radio.

Good luck !
