I'm still in mourning after getting an email saying ScannersUnlimited is closing. ScannersUnlimited (Glenn) was one of the few scanner stores that shipped to Canada without question. Glenn knew exactly how to fill out those customs forms.

I pretty much purchased every scanner radio I owned from Glenn, maybe too many as Glenn reconized my voice when I called.

I will miss ScannersUnlimited and those typewriter invoices.

Thanks Glenn for many great years of great service and fine scanner talk

To All of My Dear Customers:

After 31 years in the radio business, it is with sadness, and yet a feeling of peace, that I am announcing my retirement. My reasons for this decision are the following: ......

Already a thread about this.

I am aware of that but maybe some of the guys up here in Canada just want to give their own little praise and congratulate Glen on his retirement. No harm in it, if a mod wants to stop the comments so be it.

I felt a note in this forum was necessary. I can safely say if it was'nt for Glenn 50 % of the regular contributing members of Western Canada Radio Discussion Forum would not own digital scanners.

Glenn was the one and only willing to ship to Canada without question when digital scanners first came available.

Its a bit better now we have a radio dealer in Canada selling Digital Scanners at a premium.

Anyone know of a good source in western Canada?

I have recently jumped back into scanners after a 10 year absence. Does anyone know a reliable source for scanners in western Canada? I live in Calgary.

Thanks!

I hear ya....I just didn't know if you were aware of the other thread. That brings up a good point, I always wondered why people will not ship to canada. I am from NJ , but I have sold things on ebay before and I have shipped to canada. Its only one extra form to fill out, and it only takes a min. So many people that sell scanners on here will not ship to you guys, I don't get it.

Post Hijacking... sorry

I just realized I posted in this thread above. I meant to start a new thread. So sorry. I jumped back into the game too late to deal with Glenn, but from the number of people responding on this thread, it looks like there will be some big shoes to fill in the coming years!

I've been away from the scene for a while myself. Traditionally any Canadian Ham or Scanner dealer has been grossly overpriced, in my experience. Aside from my Radio Shack gear, pretty much every new scanner or piece of ham gear I have purchased has been from Universal Radio in Ohio. That said, it's been a while. Things may have changed, but looking at some of the Canadian price lists, I don't see it yet...
For example, a local Calgary dealer's current price list shows the Bearcat 996T at $649.00 Universal lists it at $539.

Canadians purchacing scanners from the U.S.A.

I have had very good results with Lentinicomm.com 1800 666 0908 of Newington CT USA . I purchased a BC 250D from them and they now sell the new GRE scanners . They are also on E-Bay so check them out if you are in the market for a new scanner.

Scanners Unlimited Goodbye Glen.

I purchased my PRO96 and software for it from Glen back in 2004 and it was a pleasant experience dealing with him! I wish him the best of luck and a long and happy retirement!
