Scanning and Law Enforcement

I work closely with the Law Enforcement in my area , And have took notice that several of our drug runners are using the I-Phone apps such as 5-0 Radio to keep up with the whereabouts of our Sheriff's department.

So I have decided mostly on the weekends at night when they are doing raids and bust I am going to quit broadcasting or either lock out the Sheriff's repeater during these times.

Why don't they just get cell phones like every other department now a days and dispatch tell the officers where to go,instead of broadcasting everything on the radio,they do here,all the old tact channels they have done away with,because every officer has a cell phone.

Then how are the drug runners using their I-Phone app to listen to the Sheriff? You'd think that the Sheriff would be able to use cell phones if the drug runners can.

If your morals don't want you to provide the feed for that period of time then that's your choice, as a provider it's your choice; and there's times I've considered going air only for feeds for similar concerns, but my have proved to be mostly unfounded. But that's also part of why I suspect RR has dispatch only, and not tac channels in their TOS so those trying to coordinate units doing anti trafficing activity aren't being broadcast, yet when a cat knocks over a garbage can and scare ms o'leary and she calls the cops the world can know. If you could build in a 30min or 1hr delay that may also be a solution but leave the fun stuff open for archiving. Remember take away the feeds, and they'll just go back to using scanners, it's not a skill lost it's just cheaper and easier to hide and harder to prosecute when on a phone.

Maybe the Sheriif should keep it a little more low key on the radio of their every move while in route to the drug raid .I would hope when they are on the way to a raid that they would not call out the Address of the drug house of even their location .I dont know much about your department but isnt the raid set up in the Sheriffs office before the raid so there shouldnt be much chatter on the radio to give the dope dealers a heads up ?

Keeping the feed off during peak enforcement times is your call, but it sounds more like poor COMSEC on the part of this department. The Feds don't even use radios until they are actually doing the raid, all pre-planing is done in person at a secure area, it is some times just a parking lot nearby. Not be it your place to suggest this to the Chief, but maybe if you are that close to these officers a talk with the troops might help.

I am all for FD and Weather being broad cast but Law Enforcement shouldn't be on there where ever joe blow can click on there phone. Buy a 500 dollar scanner like the Rest of us had to do to listen.

Incorrect. Nextel can provide a Group Connect [old phones] and the new Blackberries can create one on the Fly [user created]

when I started my feed I spoke to the Sheriff and Chiefs and told them to give me a call if they wanted it down for a time and it would go down, no questions asked, but I wouldn't take it down on prime time when nothing special is going on.

Something just dont add up here .You work closely with the Law Enforcement ?.Are they telling you they are having issues with feed apps on dealers phones ?.Now your last post stated you spoke to higher ups in the local Departments what did they say to you.You only stated what you said to them not what they said back .I have never heard where or when a drug raid is about to happen over the scanner .I have heard them tracking dope dealers around town doing U C work.
I mean you monitor that agency so do they state in 15 min we are doing a raid at **** street at ** time that would be the only way they would know that they are gonna get raided.If its just Police on patrol giving out thier locations that does not give a dope dealer a heads up on a Raid .It does tell them they are patroling near or far from thier activity.Most of the time in the hood if the Police are around ghetto word of mouth is faster than any Scanner or I phone . Not to say feeds are a bit delayed.
But it saounds as if you are concered about officer saftey then take it down.

So you are re-broadcasting the info on a scanner feed to everybody,no wonder they aren't catching drug dealers,you seem to be more a hinder to law enforcement than you know. Still we would like to know how you work closely with law enforcement and disabled and what was the deal with running radar in your vehicle?Something doesn't ad up here at all sounds like a wanna-be-police/whacker to me but that's just my opinion.
