Scanning CPD...

For those of you who scan CPD -- that's CHICAGO PD for any of you Southerners -- which districts are those where the action really takes place? I just want to scan 2-3 zones at a time so i hear most of the traffic.... Any opinions on the busiest, most worth listening to? Thanks.

Well, I hate to say this, but it all depends on what "action" you want. Every Zone in the city contains your various calls.: shootings, robberies, disturbances etc....where are you located so maybe we can direct you to some "local action"..?

Nawww, it's not shot. The citizens have been trained that the Police will solve all of your problems. Listen to all the " domestic with a 12 year old that refuses to go to school" calls and ask yourself, "if that was me, and I told my Mom i'm not going to school"...lol. I'm more amused by those silly calls then ever. Hate to say, the suburbanites are getting trained as well...

I believe the CPD website has a database that alows you to reveiw crime stats per district. This might give you an idea of the busiest districts and likely types of calls.

According to the 2004 Chicago Police Annual Report (PDF) (the most recent year available online), 008 has the most index crimes of the 25 districts. These would be your homicides, CSA's, batteries, car thefts, etc. This is (I think) also the highest populated district with about a quarter million. Page 23 of the report breaks it all down.

Well to be honest districts 15/25 districts 11/13/14 are really bad areas and I almost always never scan anything but those .... China Town is also always jumping I belive that falls in the district 12 / 01

It really all depends on what you want to listen to. If you lived in the city, you'd want to obviously keep the Zone on of the District you live in. Zone 10 (Dists. 10/11) is very busy. Zone 12 (Dists. 15/25) not as bad because 25 still encompasses a decent neighborhood. Zone 3 (Dists. 13,14) is quite active but once again, encompases some decent neighborhoods. I live in Zone 6 (Dists. 7/8) and as previously mentioned, the 8th District is one of the largest in the city. Chinatown is actually in the 1st District now Zone 4 (Dists. 1,18) and also encomapsses the loop. It all depends on you and your listening..

Are we talking about the same area lol .... As far as statistics I think you are thinking of a diff. area

Lost me ...? I'm going by familiarity of neighborhoods. I really don't use statistics when i'm monitoring. Plenty of good listening...good luck

Don't know who you are or maybe do I ? You made some inaccurate statements in your post, and so I corrected...so you feel a little bitter? Districts 11,13,14 are not on the same Zone so someone who's unfamiliar with CPD may be looking for the frequencies for that Zone. I hoped to have cleared it up as i'm very familiar with CPD monitoring. I have received private messages from members who think otherwise and appreciate my input. Sorry you don't always see my comical approach, but hey to each their own. Feel free to post questions or statements and if I can correct erroneous information I will continue to do so...
