Scanning Harris County w/ a RS Pro-94

Hey guys,

I'm in Northern Harris County (Spring) and I'm in the process if *trying* to program my Pro-94 from Radio Shack, and I gotta tell ya, this thing is FAR from user friendly! I have managed to get it trunk-tracking though, but it has no alpha labels, so I'm going to have to put together a notebook with my scanner stuff just to keep track of what is in what frequency storage bank and which are trunked and not trunked, etc.

Anyways... This is my first scanner in about 8 years -- last time I had one I was in Brazoria County and a 10-channel VHF/UHF was all that was necessary to keep track of what was going on in the county No longer!

Surprisingly, the Houston Police Department is on UHF non-trunked... very surprising to me. Not that I mind. The trunking makes scanning very complicated, IMO....

Any other Houston-area folks here?

I've not been able to get my Pro-94 to find the control data channel, maybe you can help

I'm from Houston.

Throw that thing in the trash and get a Pro-95, that way you don't have to enter in any of the voice freqs, you can put every site in one bank, and it has text tags.

I agree with scanfan. Anty up and get an Pro-95. For the $200.00 it's worth it. When I travel to Houston I am normally in the Spring area, and I can pick up the downtown repeater pretty good.
I'm sure somebody can help you with the programming of the 95, or when I am back in the Spring area, close to FM1960 I can clone it for you if you buy one.
Keep the Pro-94 though and just punch in UHF freqs for Houston PD/FD and the various VHF/UHF freqs for Fire/EMS agencies in Harris Cty, like CCEMS, Cypress Fire, and CY-Fair Fire. I monitored Houston Fire real while in Spring last week.

i can email you a file for the pro-95, you will have to open it with Win95 (www.starrsoft.com, it's free). i also live on the northwest side, so give me your email address and i will email the file i use for my area, it has the light company, star-net, montgomery county, all of the area FDs and EMSs, HPD/HFD, GMRS/FRS, some of the Rail Road frequencies, the Media (traffic reporting METRO traffic Traffic.com), Pasadena, and the airport frequencies

Even better an .p95 file emailed to you. Then you can manipulate data to suit your tastes. Harris County is an busy area with LOTS, LOTS< LOTS and LOTS radio traffic and with out the text tags you will be lost.
Keep in mind that you will need to spend the $20 or so dollars to buy the pc to scanner programming cable to download the file to your scanner.
