• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a brand new Motorola APX 900, Using the APX CPC I have created the test scan list that includes 16 PMR channels. The SCAN function is added to radio main menu but its just not there after the codeplug has been updated. Additionally, I cant assign the SCAN function to a side button (the scan function is shown red in the dropdown). I'm a bit of a novice with Motorolas, could anyone please tell me what am I possibly doing wrong?

@wgbecks Thank you for your response. If you are talking about Zone CHannel assignment then the setting you mentioned is nowhere to be seen I'm afraid. OR perhaps I'm not looking in the right place?

Now we have some progress. Indeed I can't assign a function to a menu item AND soft button. The problem is that if I assign scan list function to a button, then such button acts as unprogrammed. When I assign the SCNL or SCAN to a menu item, then such items are simply not showing in the menu. No errors or warnings in the ACPS field validation section...

your personality needs to have a scan list selected, otherwise there will be no option to scan when selected on channels under that personality

ensure that not only the individual personalities are on the scan list, but that you also ensure the scan list itself has all the members then it shall scan as you'd want it to. Without doing this verification most thing it's a radio issue, that's just Moto being Moto.

You can create a few quantity of Scan Lists in your Scan Configuration. In Scan options of each conventional personality, you choose the Scan List in which this personality will be scanned. Also, an Automatic Scan may be appointed.

Then you don't have the scan list and the trunking personality setup correctly. You have to assign a scan list in the trunking personality. If you leave it off, the soft key won't show up

jthorpe is 100% correct. Here is an image of what I call the Motorola Scan Triangle.
If any of the 3 points in the triangle don't match up the scan feature will not work...if you can make this Triangle in CPS then you will be good everytime.
