I'd like some opinions on this. If I'm sitting at home or in my car and just want to casually listen for MAJOR events (code 3 stuff) across Davidson County, how should I go about doing that? Scanning all six sectors at once is too much radio traffic to sort out.

"Code 3" includes a lot of stuff. Listening to just those would be overwhelming, but not all of them are announced over "all airs". I would agree with the previous poster that the best way is to monitor Fire Dispatch, County-Wide, and the sector you are in. Most gunshot calls will be announced on Fire Dispatch before the police dispatch channels.

When I'm in Nashvillle, I too just listen to the sector I'm traveling in, South, West, North, East, Hermitage, Central, etc., because, otherwise, as you said, it really is just too much radio traffic.

By the way, does anyone have a SECTOR MAP available? I have been using one I think I got from the Metro PD website, but it didn't show the lines in detail, or you couldn't make them out. For example, what is the division line between South and Hermitage?

The map from their website is the only thing I have ever seen. I think the line between South and Hermitage is Murfreesboro Pike (Road). West side is in Antioch and East side in Hermitage.

Notice how the sectors are separated by major roads, rivers, and the county line rather than simple squares. Brilliant.

Sector

As previously stated, major happenings get put out on all airs. Also, if something crosses sector boundaries, you'll know because it this is often broadcast. (When listening to a pursuit in progress, I heard the South officer inform dispatch that the suspect had crossed into Hermitage, and then back into South where he was captured.)
