Hello from afar (no, not a Fire)

I'm going to be spending some time in Perry and Cumberland counties, and would like to know how to scan that area. I'll be in Carlisle and East Waterford, and would like to listen to surrounding agencies.

I have read about your OpenSky, and I've walked away confused. Is it in use or has it been put on the technological junk-pile?

Can the newer scanners, such as the newer trunked ones, programmed with RR information, scan this area?

My interest is mostly EMS, not so much to Law Enforcement.

Thanks!

Cumberland County is using their Open Sky system
so your out of luck, however, there are channels that
repeat some of the traffic:

46.060 97.4 NFM Repeats dispatch channel
453.1750 131.8 NFM EMS dispatch
462.9750 131.8 NFM EMS
460.5750 NFM Repeats dispatch (Shippensburg area)

Perry County is using the frequencies listed in the RRDB
(All FM & NFM Analog)

Carlisle Boro (Has their own 800Mhz trunking system) Listed in the
data base. (Police & public works) (Older Analog system)The fire departments
are on open sky

State DCNR has Open Sky radio's but also have a VHF-H system that normally
cover state parks etc. Some local ones:(NFM Analog)
151.8225 210.7 Pine Grove SP
156.2250 CSQ DCNR direct
154.1075 210.7 Col Denning SP
154.8675 CSQ DCNR direct
151.0775 88.5 Kings Gap SP

The Federal Government has 380 Mhz trunking systems
in Cumberland County if your into that type of thing. They
are all listed in the RRDB. (P-25 Digital)

NSA-Mechanicsburg
New Cumberland Army Depot
Mechanicsburg Naval Support Depot
Carlisle Army War college

Have a good trip

Moosemedic, as W3DMV said, Cumberland IS on Open Sky, but they do still run patches to their old Fire and EMS frequencies. I live in Perry County and I monitor both.

46.06 (PL 97.4) for Fire Dispatch
462.975 (PL 131.8) for EMS
453.175 (PL 131.8) for EMS Narrow Band (same radio traffic as the above frequency)
46.00 (PL 88.5) for Fire Mutual Aid
46.22 (PL 85.4) for Fire Mutual Aid
*The first 3 have the most traffic

Perry is as follows:
45.66 is Perry County Police Dispatch
46.20 is Perry County Fire/EMS Dispatch
453.4625 is a Tower link that allows you to hear distant units, but that is in Newport and you have to be fairly close to it.
36.30 is Perry County Fire Ground 1
Those 4 are about all you will hear.

The Carlisle Boro system is a good one to plug in if you are going to be IN Carlisle. It's not a very powerful system and you don't hear it too far away from Carlisle in my experience.

Good luck and happy listening!

Wow that was quick !

Thank you both for the information.

We don't have this "Open Sky" in Colorado so it's not a system I understand. We have many 700/800 non-functional systems here. Tried to do an actual state-wide trunked radio, but it was such a dismal failure that agencies are consolidating a building thier own.

I am surprised that low-band is still in use.... although Kansas seems to use it as well as Nebraska.

I've got a new BCD396XT that I use here, and wanted to setup for this trip to your region.

Thanks again !
