I am kinda new to scanning, and have a quick question.
When entering the frequency, then the input, where do you enter the tone?
For instance, ch 1 I will enter 141.3900, then the 107.2pl, do I enter on ch2 139.4700 and the 107.2 pl?

I am using an older BC760xlt with the ctcss chip. Its great for where I live, but kinda limited.

Thanks for any help guys!

On a repeater system you do not NEED to monitor the input frequency as it should be be repeated on the output frequency. It might not be a bad idea to keep it programmed and locked out because there might be a time where the person talking is close enough for you to hear on the input and for some reason you cannot hear the repeater output that well.

You can also just scan the inputs to see when someone is talking somewhat close to you, I did that last week to hear when a police officer was leaving the scene at my apartment complex after taking a report.

I can get several police agencies around where I live. I will input only the frequencie on one band and another band for the output. Do I need to enter the PL on the output channels?
Thanks for the feed back Grog, much appreciated.

You do not NEED to program them, but if you have the correct PL tones and they do not use more than one set on one frequency (somewhat rare) then it should help to keep unwanted transmissions silent.

CTCSS/DCS is one of the greatest things to happen with the newer scanners, you're was just way ahead of it's time.

For what it's worth, when I monitor a local agency's repeater system, I do program the input freq. but without the PL tone. Lots of times I find agency users using the input freq. with the PL shut off (thus their transmissions do not go through the repeater) for chit chat comms or even tactical nature comms or personal info (names, locations, etc.). Other than the reasons noted in the above posts, my reason described above may come in useful some day if you don't mind putting up with the scanner locking up on the input freq. all the time. Just lock it out until needed.
