Hello, everyone!

This is my first post, I wanted to ask for some advice getting my scanner (BCD 996P2) programmed with the VIPER system for North Carolina. I have ProScan as well and it is activated, and am a premium member of RR. I have programmed the system extensively before, but the VIPER system is MUCH too big to fit on the scanner at least in a single System. I was wondering if, and if so, how to break it up, or if I should just try and only add the frequencies in my area. The thing is, all I can really find for Graham and Swain counties (I'm on the border of both at the moment) is conventional stuff where there doesn't seem to be any traffic here, and VIPER groups but I don't know what frequencies correspond to this area! Specifically, I am at Fontana Dam, can anyone help me? I have tried also manually programming in all the frequencies in the P25 system for the Graham and Swain areas, but still no luck. Back home in GA I can hear EMS, Fire, PD, etc all on our P25 system so I feel like there should be more chatter!

Thanks in advance!

On the NC VIPER database page, look for the "hamburger menu" on the top right of the Sites and Frequencies table. The menu looks like 3 horizontal lines. Select the Site Locations Report. This will open a page with a map that shows locations of all VIPER sites. Use the zoom controls to zoom in on your specific area. Find the site or sites that are closest to you, and only program those sites. There's no need to program sites that are nowhere near your location. It looks like there are three sites in Swain County and 1 in Graham County.

On this same page, scroll through the listing of talkgroup groups and find the lists for Graham and Swain Counties. Both counties have a standard set of talkgroups. You'll have to listen to determine if any of these are actually in use. You can also search the NC Forum posts for those county names to see if anyone has posted relatively recently about what radio systems are in use in these counties.

You'll want to program NC SHP talkgroups also, specifically Troop G. You will definitely hear some or most of those talkgroups active on your local sites. It's likely you'll hear other talkgroups as well, from adjacent counties our other state agencies. If you scan in ID Search mode, you will hear all talkgroups active on the sites you program, and then can create a list of active talkgroups to scan.

Hope this helps.

I hear traffic on the 60731 EBCI Law talkgroup from the Murphy sight. Traffic is mostly related to the casino in Murphy NC.
You are closer and may hear more traffic on your sight.
