Scanning Wichita

Over the next few weeks I'll be in Wichita with my wife. While she's at her conferences I'll be left alone to do my own thing. What I'm looking for are those non-trunked freqs (ham,aviation etc) used in the area. Also any good railfaning sites, ones where I won't get in trouble. Where are the good places for lunch??? I'll be staying in the old town area so somewhere in that area thats nice would be great. I've also heard "rumors" from some people, not from Wichita, that say that scanners in cars is illegal.. Whats the real story there???

Scanner laws are usually state and federal laws. In Kansas it is legal to have a mobile scanner.

What scanner do you have? If it a Radio Shack I send you my SPG file in any format that would work on a radio shack scanner. Cops Rail HAM and Aircraft as well as Media and Conventional law channels TEXT Tagged and accurate.

Depending on what kind of you can handle.. I would recomend Old Chicago in Old Town, Mexican: La Paisa Tequeria 21st and Arkansas
(Bring your scanner fersure and Lock your doors), Indian: Passage to India Woodlawn and 21st, Mediteranian: LeMonde Cafe, Central and West st., Good Martini and Coffee Bagavonde Cafe

I have the Pro-96 and 2096 that I'll have with me..

Do you have don starrs programs that will let you program your scanner and convert SPG files? Because I dont have the program to convert P95 file to p96.....
Well .... Dont qoute me on that just yet. My wife left with my Laptop so let me check on it and see if i do have the P96 File converter.

When are you comin in?

I can use the p95 file as I have a pro-95.. I'll leave one of my 96's at home. But then again, there's no such thing as scanner overkill is there?

This is how I have its listed, Just easier to manage all the info coming in plus its similer to how my radio at work is set up.


Bank List:
0 = Wichita PD (Trunk and conventional)
1 = Sedgwick Co SO (Trunk and conventional)
2 = KHP (Trunk and conventional)
3 = Fire/EMS (Trunk and conventional)
4 = Public Serv. (Utillity works City and County)
5 = HAM / Media
6 = Interagencies ( All outlying Communities in Conventional)
7 = Rail Roads
8 = Federal Agencies (Conventional Only)
9 = Air KCZKC ( ALL OF KC Int Flight ZONES in Kansas )

Yes Rick, it does export to Excell. or let me refrace that excell will import it, Cut and Paste!

Was in Wichita yesterday and went to a new place for us for supper. If you like Chinese and are willing to drive across town PF Chang’s was awesome. It is at the Waterfront at 13th and Webb.
