can a scantenna be fed with 300ohm twin lead rather than coax??
a friend of mine wants to put up a scantenna on an old tv antenna mast, already has 300ohm twin lead from there into the house. the twin lead is about 2 years old. can this be hooked directly to the scantenna, then use the balun inside the house to coax to the scanner ?? twin lead would be about 30feet, then balun, then about 10feet of coax to scanner. scanning 33,154,460-480, and 860mhz.

It wouldn't hurt to try, but I would think it would pick up a lot of noise, and suffer a lot of loss. Isn't that why they started using coax for T.V.?

Twin lead is the lowest loss line you can get.Unless your spending money on hardline. The problem with twin lead is you have to stay away from metal objects. There is no sheild with twin lead. So , any metal object is likely to cause problems. From what I understand, coax was initially designed for millitary aircraft use.

This artical will help you understand the feedlines tremendously.
