Hi all,

I found someone selling a brand new still in box Scantenna ST-1, asking $35 for it locally (obviously, I'd offer less) Is this antenna any good? I know it's probably been beat to death in here, but I searched and could only find info on the ST-2. I have a RS 20-176 antenna, not mounted outdoors or anything yet, but I've used it a few times and it's made a noticable difference in signal quality on my PRO-433 even just sitting on my living room floor. Would the Scantenna be a step up, or much the same? Just wondering if I should bother with the Scantenna..

Thanks.

The ST1 is the old version of the scantenna which required extra support. The ST2 is the newer version. You can read all about this in the Wiki

you can get the newer style new for that price. I'd go down in the price.

Just wondering, what's the biggest difference between the new and old scantenna? I've heard the wind will take out the older one pretty easy (I assume that's the extra support Sinister spoke of)...but is there any noticable difference in reception?

Yes, I know $35 is too much for it. I think I'd offer $20 tops for it..

Thanks for the replies guys

The Scantenna (either model #) will perform much better on the VHF Low Band and CB Bands.......

If those frequencies are a concern, I'd go with the Scantenna.....

Well, for now it's a moot point, I talked to the guy and he won't take any less than $30 for it. At that point I might as well spend the extra $10 for the newer model.

His logic is "well, I paid over $55 for it a few years ago.." yeah, and I paid $17k for my car 5 years ago, it doesn't mean I'm going to be able to sell it for $15k today..oh well.
