We had a scare as well at BNA yesterday. A small plane (Rockwell Commander) took off from 20C at BNA and had an engine failure. Since this particular A/C has only one it was pretty serious. The tower gave him a clearance to do a 180 and land opposite direction 2C. The pilot missed the runway but made the grassy area next to it with gear down and rolled to a stop. The pilot was unhurt but it did, at least temporarily, cause an ALERT 3 to be issued ineffectively closing the airport for a few minutes. A Southwest on approach had to go around and all traffic ceased. Unfortunately i didn't have my BC-296 to hear the rescue side of it but got the info mainly on ground control 121.9 A very interesting day to say the least.

A go around. Either the pilot decided he couldn't make the approach (missed approach, but unlikely since you said he was too low already) or the controller issued a go-around most likely because another aircraft (or vehicle) would be on the runway at time of touchdown or within the required spacing window. After the instruction is given the comms are rather routine unless you happen to hear the aircraft contact airline operations on that particular freq.

No I do not have a scanner at all currently. Most of them burned in the housefire, and my 92 B died a week later when I was in a homeless shelter.. So by July I should have enough saved to buy a PRO-2096.

Bummer about the fire. I hope you can get the 2096 soon!
