SCHP Possible Change- TG 29075 on Thicketty?

Anybody know if the SCHP has changed any of their talkgroups in Cherokee/York/Chester recently?

I'm trying to pick up the Cherokee SCHP but I'm not turning a lick on TG 21512. I'm picking up a 29075 talkgroup actively though and I've heard a few Cherokee/Chester references, as well as references to several Cherokee County landmarks.

I've been fiddling around with the Palmetto 800 on an old radio shack pro-91 to see what I could pick up before I invested in one of the newer scanners. Are any of the SCHP units in this area digital?

Just to update my own reply two units just switched to Ch. 50 (which was 29360 as listed) and then said back to 49... so it appears 29075 is Ch. 49 now

I picked up some 29072 traffic from the Batesburg tower about a week ago which appeared to be SCHP.

29075 is not a valid ID I believe.

The true talkgroup is 29072. The +3 is a status bit indicates Ch. 51 29072 is patched to another talkgroup, in this case likely Ch. 49 21520. So what you're hearing on 29075 is talkgroups 29072 and 21520 patched together. When they eliminated the dispatch office in Gaffney and transferred those dispatchers to Chester, they began patching those talkgroups together.

You're PRO-91 is not capable of handling the status bit like most more current trunktrackers. Other radios "ignore" the status bit and show you 29072 instead of 29075.

You're not going to hear anything on 21512, that's not a valid talkgroup. I suspect that was a typo, and you meant 21520.

I'll do some more looking into it and see what I can figure out. it appears they are linked... do they stay that way all the time?

I was figuring with the big music festival in Gaffney the traffic would be pretty heavy this weekend, but nothing unusual so far today.

The simple solution, UpstateSC, is to enter atleast three of the possible talkgroups into your scan list to insure you hear the Cherokee County units:
- 21520 (Cherokee Co ... no status bit variation)
- 21523 (Cherokee Co ... patched with another talkgroup)
- 29075 (York Co ... patched with another talkgroup)

The Cherokee / Union and York talkgroups are patched fairly regularly. When the dispatch sets up the patch on their console, the first talkgroup to be selected will be the one you're scanner locks on ... which is why you want both the altered Cherokee and altered York talkgroups in your scan list.

If you think about it, it's kind of nice being able to monitor SCHP operations on the north end of both I-85 and I-77. A couple of tips to help you know who you're hearing ... some officers refer to I-77 as "the I."

Also, at milemarker 90, I-77 enters into N.C. (I-85 ends at the 105 milemarker, I believe).

And if you're really interested in traffic related to this weekend's Fire Lake music festival, make sure to monitor SC TAC 4 868.6375/156.7. That appears to be the Command channel for state agencies working at the festival (SCHP etc). I assume the locals are using their normal channels.
