Schuyler County to Cayuga Medical Center in Tompkins County?

I often see Schuyler County ambulances driving towards Cayuga Medical Center in Tompkins County. Does anyone know what frequency they use to call ahead? I monitor Tompkins P25 and have never heard Schuyler call on there, so I assume it's on a conventional frequency, since that's what the rest of Schuyler uses. Or maybe they just call ahead on cell phone? Thanks.

A lot of ambulance to hospital is now done by cell phone. Use of 155.340 and the UHF MED channels is rare now in most areas but I can't say specifically for your area.

Do you have all hospital and ems service types enabled if your scanner supports those?
I have a BCD996P2. I don't think it supports service types? But it's possible I'm naive about it.
It should be noted that I only receive a handful of the Schuyler frequencies, FD, FD1, FD2, and Law1. But I would think if CMC can receive it, so can I since I'm located between the two entities. I do pick up their multi-county intercom (45.880, tone 103.5) which is between Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates, but that's not for hospitals I don't think.

Yes. I've only heard in-county services using them. Never had a hit on 55050.

Not familiar with up there, but anything on 55051 & 2? The ones that say Notify? Down here on Long Island we have 3 or 4 tg's just for buses to alert hospitals of the patients onboard being brought in.

Cell phone is preferred in many cases by both hospital and ambulance people. ER personnel aren't distracted by monitoring for radio calls and it provides for better patient privacy and discussion of condition. Radio is only an emergency backup or for Mass Casualty Incident coordination as the standard procedure in many areas. The original telemetry functions intended for the MED channels are also done better over cellular now.

Dedicated Hospital TGs on the P25 systems are better that the old shared 155.340 but cellular is still often the preferred alternative.

More and more of it is being done with an app these days, such as Pulsara.
(In general - I don't know what is specifically used at Cayuga Medical Center).

The other day, a Schuyler LE unit was called to a welfare check for a female on the street wearing a dark overcoat (and nothing else). A few minutes later, he asked dispatch to contact CMC to notify he'll be transporting her there. "Notify how!?" I was thinking. I quickly turned on all of Tompkins P25 hospital channels and continued scanning Schuyler... all was quiet. ... so close.

Some counties (notably mine) encrypt their hospital notification talkgroups. Assuming you've enabled ID Search to check for unidentified talkgroups on the system?

Looks like most of it goes through the Pulsara app.

According to the attached memo from the Central NY Regional EMS Council:

2. Communication: the time is right to move forward with the transition to full communication between EMS and ED to go through Pulsara. This includes trauma, STEMI and stroke. Please include in Pulsara the same information you would have provided in a verbal “telemetry” report to the hospital for these patient type.

This is a hospital request to streamline their practice and also to reduce the burden on the 911 center. We will maintain 155.1600 and med channel capabilities as backups, at least for the time being if not permanently.

That's interesting. I wonder if it pertains to other CNY counties not listed in the "Serving" section (Schuyler not listed). But since Tompkins and Cortland are listed, I wonder if the use of some of the P25 Hospital talk groups will fade away. Thanks for the info!

There are several Regional EMS Councils in the State that develop protocols and procedures for the agencies in their areas (Regional EMS Councils). You might be able to find procedures for the other areas you are looking for. The Pulsara website (New York Pulsara Resources) shows several areas in NYS and their estimated "go-live" status. Keep in mind that that does not mean that they are exclusively using the app for communications. Also there are similar apps being used in some parts of the state, for instance in the Hudson Valley and Westchester Regions, the Twiage app is popular. Radio infrastructure is still there and occasionally used but cell phones and mobile apps are way more common.

As has been said in the forums repeatedly for a while now.. EMS to hospital notifications via radio is quickly becoming a thing of the past. With the accessibility of technology it really is a whole lot easier to get on the cell phone or send the info via a mobile app.

I have been advised that hospitals are required by the NY State Health Department to keep their analog 155.340 capability so that ambulances transporting from out of the area and out of the state can still communicate with those hospitals.

I have put 155.340 CSQ in the Statewide Interop list and will delete it from individual counties unless used with a unique PL tone for the County or particular hospital.
