I have 30+ years experience with conventional scanners but the Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response is all new to me.

I have read up and I’m ready for a new scanner, I’m thinking the GRE PSR-500 should fit the bill. Are there any recommendations on any others? This will be used for Scott County and not much more but I’m open to everyone’s thoughts.

Does anyone have experience with the ARC500 software? Does anyone have a sample data file they would be willing to share?

Thanks for any help!

I have files that cover Minnesota, Iowa (incomplete) SoDak (incomplete), NoDak, Wisconsin and Illinois (also incomplete). These are in the ARC996 format, and since I have no other version, I don't know if the two are compatible. If someone else could answer that question and they will, I'm happy to share these with you.

I had a GRE PSR-500 in the past, but I sold it and bought both a Uniden Bearcat BCD396XT and a BCD996XT. I think the Unidens do a better job decoding the ARMER system than my GRE did.

As far as the ARMER System goes I use both the 996t and the PSR-600 I have better audio and overall transmissions with the GRE scanner. They are both good radios and if programed correctly will work great. I also use the ARC500 software and love it. programming this system is more trick if you are going to use the scanner mobile but in a base setting it is much easier. Just the local sites for the ARMER system and away you go.

Thanks for your input. Is there anything specific you like better on the Unidens? Better reception and/or sound quality?

I have the ARC500 figured out, with the RR import feature it looks to be very easy.

I have 194 talk groups identified, I think it's time to pull the trigger and get a radio on order.
