• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Are generally useless and just intended for getting the radio through the shipping process. Most of us like to leave them in place to provide some protection as we move our radios around, but the factory protectors are generally not smooth and hard to see through if bubbles are present. I have replaced mine with Palm Pilot screen protectors or Clear Screen Overlays as sold by Belkin. You can install t on your screen and then X-acto knife it to fit or try to precut them before installing them. All in all a better view is had as well as protection to the display, and if it becomes scratched or dull/dirty you just replace it. A lot easier than replacing the display!

you want to keep FRESH as possible...
I mean 600 is average for rent for some of us...

I went to the fabric section of Walmart and bought a yard of clear vinyl to make PDS protectors for my PDA. Lately I've been using clear packing tape on all my handhelds. IT seemsto go on easier with less chance of bubbles.

Couple of things...

I've recently put some PDA screen protectors on my scanners... I don't worry about sliding the radio into a pocket that has other stuff in it.

Secondly, I guess you guys in the states can order a new front + back for the case if it gets too scratched etc. Might be something worth doing if you're going to sell the thing a few years down the line - buy a replacement case + keypad. "Scanner is AS NEW" lol.

Im not worried about selling it
I hope I never have too
But my mindset is:
I want to take care of what I have so I can be proud to show it off while I do have it
I made my own case for my Pro 97 AND my Icom IC-R3
My BCD396T I bought a case whilst I bought it from the same place

It costs like 2.00 dollar for the clear sheet lioke the you mak table clothe or whatever
and the diffrent thicknesses of it..
then I bout some FAUX fur...
and I was set ....
It was fun and cost around 14.00 total
Whera case can 20, to 30. at the cheapest...
Anyways
