SDS100/SDS200: Scrolling to department

This is in relation to my sds100:

I know that pressing the "dept" softkey will pause on that department and during that 2 seconds I can twist the scroll knob to cycle through all the different departments.

My question is how do I then hold on that department? Currently after that 2 second pause expires, or I press any other button, it just goes back to scanning.

If I know something is happening on the highway patrol department what's the best/quickest way to get to that department (department number 4 in my scanner)? I don't really care much for number tags because that gets to be a lot to remember and I'd have a ton of them when I was done.

I appreciate the reply but I do know how to hold on the department if say during scan mode department police comes up I can double tap and hold on that department. I'm asking during scan mode, how to quickly get to a given department.

This is a little bit of a nuanced question so I apologize for any confusion.

There's not a direct method to quickly jump to (and hold) a specific department. But you may be able to accomplish what you want to do via number tags.

A Number Tag lefts you quickly jump to a specific Favorites list, System, or Channel. So, you could tag the system, which would allow you to switch to it, then, when holding on the System, scroll your Departments & hold on the one you want.

But, instead, you could tag a specific channel (conventional frequency or trunked system talkgroup) in that Department. After that leap, you would be in the Department that you want to set as 'Hold'.

I listen predominately to the Police Department, but occasionally my friend in the County says something's up so I want to tune in. I am already on "Hold" on Police. I hit Dept, then scroll to the Sheriff, and then it holds on Sheriff.

Press the Department key to hold on any Department. Press Department again, and then scroll with the knob to the Department that you want. Not the best method method, but it works without using quick keys and number tags.


Might be a good feature request. When you hold on a Channel, you can use the knob to select different channels in that Department manually. Wish that you could do the same, hold on a Department, and then the knob would be used to select different Departments.

I did play around with Quick Keys and Number Tags but ultimately I liked the holding on a Department as I described, which works for what I want to listen to.

Tap Dept Hold once while scanning the system (or the system may be on hold already), wait for the dept hold to take effect, Then tap Dept Hold once more to scroll to a different dept, it will then hold that dept where you stop it.

You can also do the same with the System Hold button to get to a different system as well....

Thanks guys, this helps. I didn't think up this delayed double tap method. Almost got there but needed to reverse the steps.

Press the DEPT softkey. Let it time out or press it a second time (quickly) to enter DEPT HOLD mode.

THEN press it and scroll and it will hold on the newly selected department.

I have no problem getting direct entry and tuned to a specific channel (talkID). However, even if I hold the department that the channel is in, whenever I tap the channel button again, it doesn't just scan the talkIDs within that department, it scans my entire favorites list again. Am I missing a step or can I not scan all the channels within that department?

Is the DEPARTMENT line still in reverse text? (in HOLD mode)
