Hello all,

Can the SD card be formatted on the HP2 in Mass Storage mode?

Tnx
Yes.

Use this program for formatting:
SD Card Formatter - SD Association

Of course, accessing the HP-2's card is very easy, and would complete faster if you use an external card reader, not through using the Mass Storage mode.

Once you do complete formatting the card, be sure & use the 'Clear User Data' found on the drop-down Home Patrol menu.

That creates the basic file stricture needed for the scanner to access the card. Once you've done that, then use Sentinel to write the database and any Favorites lists to the card.

Thanks, Steve, The reason I ask is that my new HP2 scanner, the Sentinal software can't see it. HP2 firmware is 1.05 and Sentinal is 2.03
So my thought is if just reformat and load new fingers crossed it would work.

Be sure that you have the correct version of Sentinel installed. The current version of Sentinel for the x36HP & SDS scanners is 2.03.

But the version for the HP-1 & HP-2 is also version 2.03,

For the Home Patrol version that you need, the icon for the shortcut will be a red shield. It is version 2.03, revision 02.

Sentinel for the SDS & x36HP scanners is version 2.03, revision 00.

The icon for it is a green shield.

Links for both versions are on this Wiki page:

Thanks all, Yeah I thought it might have been a Sentinal problem because I pre-downloaded it before I got the scanner and I did have the correct one It even says HomePatrol. So I uninstalled it and just for grins I installed the one that is one HP2 SD card and ran the updates and still joy on being able to update the firmware. So I'm getting ready to reformat the card and see what happens. Let's hope I don't muck it up since I just spent most of my day at work dealing with firewall issues, the good news I was able to fix the $30k firewall. I'll be back in about an hour with my findings. You guys are a great help. 73

Well, it's an epic fail, I still can't see the scanner with the software. Here is another oddity, in the upper right corner it has the lock icon, I press it to unlock and I get the screen prompting me to unlock it and it still is locked, what gives? This a brand new scanner, but I can't return it since was FB marketplace buy, the person had bought out a dealership that went under. Dejected

Before you even open Sentinel...
When you plug the scanner into a USB port on the computer is the scanner prompting you to select Mass Storage mode or Serial mode?
The scanner has to be in Mass Storage mode for Sentinal to access it... Mass Storage makes the micro SD card in the scanner look like a USB
flash drive to the computer...
You should also be able to see it in Windows Explorer at this time...

Also the firmware on my HP-2 is ver 1.06...

Hi Randy, that seems odd, when I'm in "Mass Storage" mode I do see my SD card and when I go update the firmware it says I have the current version. I guess I'll leave well enough alone, working as designed as they would say.
I still have an issue with being able to upload and download to the scanner plus I still have the lock screen issue.

.
You actually do have the most current firmware version... there has never been any firmware updates issued for the HP-2 since it was first released 9 years ago.

As far as your lock unlock function you could try this...
Compliments of @fxdscon ...

And did you actually press the UNLOCK icon to unlock it?

If you can't get the PC to see the card, try reformatting it using a card reader.

My HP-2... Quick screen shot...

You may have a newer HP-2 than the OP. Mine, which I've had since they were released, is still @ 1.05. There have been no updates released. But the 1.06 is likely a slight revision to deal with issues where the original components were no longer available. Replacements, having the same functionality, needed slightly different firmware settings to work as designed.

Offhand, I don't recall the specific thread, but there was a slight firmware revision, to deal with replacements for components that were no longer available, such as this one for the 436HP. The SDS100 got a similar update. It did add some step values for searching, but also was tagged as a "housekeeping update" to accommodate revised components.

Update: I did do the screen calibration with no change, reformatted the SD card on my PC using SD Card Formatter, and did the Clear User Data, but I still have a lock icon on the screen and I can't see the SD card in the scanner unless I'm in Mass Storage mode. I have tried this on different computers both Win 10. So I guess every time I want to upload my favorites I need to be in Mass Storage mode. Maybe I'm understanding this software wrong, should I be able to see the SD card at any time I have the cable hooked up and NOT in mass Storage mode? Thanks all

More Updates: Ok, I'm a knucklehead, on the screen lock deal I was expecting the padlock to show a unlocked icon when unlocked, it turns yellow when locked and grey when unlocked.

The scanner has to be in Mass Storage mode for the Computer and Sentinel to see and access the Micro SD card...
When you plug the scanner into your computer, the scanner screen should show this... It will just sit there until YOU tap Mass Storage
mode...
