I have owned a Radio Shack Pro-106 scanner since December. In December and January, I programmed it using programming software, which worked great. I entered in everything necessary to listen to the local ambulance service and other agencies, such as the frequency tables, system frequencies (tower sites), etc., and it worked fine up until last week. All of a sudden, I turned it on and could not hear anything. When someone would talk, the scanner would stop on the object, but I could not hear anything. The signal bar was full and the black T box was there. What do you think could be wrong? It's weird that I can't hear anything on any of the objects. It it possibly a statewide problem?

Was OK Last week

I was in Sioux Falls last week and bought a Pro-106 while I was there, have 996XT so this was my first crack at a 106. Worked fine in Sioux Falls area and I am liking new 106! SD database needs some work, but I am not there often enough anymore to help with that (used to live in Sioux Falls)
Try magical reload?, make sure squelch is down? Do you get sound out of the jack on top? grasping at straws for ya...

Nothing comes out of the speaker jack, either. I'll re-upload everything onto the scanner once I can find my elusive cable, which seemingly disappears by itslf.

Since you have no audio (sound) out of either the speaker or the jack on the top, it sounds to me like the audio amp in the scanner has gone bad. Also did you try the jack and then the trouble started, or did it just quit on it's own. Something that I just thought of, one lead of the volume control could have broken loose from the PC board when you turned it on ( I had this happen to a customers radio, and it delt me fits until I found the problem)!

If it is still in warrenty, take it in and have it sent in for repair.

Good luck.

I'm having the same issue. I've searched and searched the boards but all these conversations seem to trail off with no real answer. Here's the deal:
I dropped my Pro-106 tonight. Since then, I can not hear any transmission. I can turn the squelch all the way down and hear static. I can hear the key beeps. I can NOT hear any transmissions. I've done all kinds of trouble-shooting and luckily I have two Pro-106's so I can try different things and compare (for example, I removed the antanae from my second scanner to make sure the antanae wire had not come loose).
I also did a complete factory reset on the scanner and transferred all my frequencies and settings from scanner 2 into scanner 1 and I still have the problem.
There is a "G" above the word >>SCANNING<<... if that helps.

This is driving me CRAZY!

Now... I'm no tech-guy so if this issue has anything to do with trunking settings or something else deeper than simple frequencies, I would need someone to give me any instructions on a 3rd grade level.

Your help would be VERY appreciated as this is my NEW Pro-106 for which I just paid decent money.

Try enabling split frequencies under advanced settings in win500. I had the exact same problem with my 106 and this fixed it!

The G is Global ATT. Press FUNC then ATT to clear that. Sounds like the antenna wire is broken under the BNC connector on the scanner. On most scanners it's not hard to remove screws on back and look at BNC. May require resolder. With luck you could get Radio Shack to replace a non-working unit. Good Luck.

No problem, I spent almost a year on and off trying to figure out why my scanner would work in sioux falls but not vermillion. Btw, I see your profile says you live in CA, do you also love in SD? Just curious
