I just received this sd100 yesterday.. not understanding why I can't pick up the Lompoc fcc, I did my zip code and it does show up, but it makes that awful sounding trunking noise.. my radio shack 668 was real simple to do.. looks like I have to manually or go onto computer to do it.. you'd think for a $700 scanner it would be a lot easier. 🤔

What exactly are you monitoring with your SDS100? Below? (Guess you left out the last "S" for "Simple" :ROFLMAO:)

Download Sentinel and program a favorites list for what you want to hear

Sentinel SDS100/200 Software Manual

Original poster are you asking about Lompoc FCI Prison Complex under the federal prison Bureau?

It shows to be a Motorola type ll smart zone system that may not have been updated since 2012?

If you were using the ZIP code method.. check a couple of three things, make sure you have all the most recent updates as the last one I believe dealt with a bug with type ll smart Zone systems that may have been a result of another update. Make sure to update your database and make sure all your service types are on.. for some reason only major service types are enabled when the radio comes out of the box, turn them all on for now.

Using Sentinel, you can create a favorites list for Lompoc and then append the Lompoc system to it. The database has it as a Motorola system and includes the necessary band plan.

Band PlanLower MHzUpper MHzSpacing KHzOffset
1406410.737512.5380
200250
300250
400250
500250
600250

It could be updated to a P25 system, but the database still shows a Motorola system. I just updated the database.

Ah, good eye Bob
Yes but the type of system it is and the fact it may not have been updated since 2012, I would certainly think it would be a p25 system by now, he definitely needs Sentinel to update everything.

Original poster, as said, you will have to use a computer and this radio has a very high learning curve, if you owned a BCD 436 then it'll come easy to you but it is difficult to do.

Though at one point the FBOP was updating to P25 systems, many prisons remain on Type II systems. I don't know if it was money or man power that has caused the delay.

Ah, hey if the system works!

I follow fed agencies up-to-date lately.. that's probably where my mentality is coming from, I have to admit I'm not familiar with Federal Pens.

You'll have to do time to get some first-hand experience. :) I admit that I have been in many police stations. Fortunately, that is due to working for a TV station. It appears that a lot of federal prisons all still using Motorola systems.

When I got my new SDS100 (last week), it had a DB version of 7/15/2018. :ROFLMAO: So a LOOooooNG time ago in DB years. Sentinel software is needed to update this. They appear to update the DB every week on Monday. Hundreds or thousands of changes every week.

Another option that's easy, if you know the frequency and modulation (check the live online DB via the web), I would plug this into the waterfall (after the $20 unlock) and you can visually see the signal and demod/listen to it at the same time.

This $700 scanner isn't easy at first, but it's worth the learning curve as a pocket SDR.

Unfortunately scanners these days are complicated. Radio systems are more complicated. Us users have asked for more features, so that complicates them even more.

It'll take trial and error and a ton a patience to get things going, unfortunately. One cannot ruin a scanner through bad programming.

I was wondering about that, too.
