I have not been hearing many SDFD dispatches the last few days. I prefer to monitor the tone out TG, but I also scan 7A and 7B. Well, I have been hearing tone outs followed by nothing....no dispatch traffic on 4688, 5168, or 5008. I know that the dispatches were going out, because I have a Motorola that would hear them fine, but my Unidens refused to pick up the transmissions.

So, after missing too many calls on the Uniden, I simply did an ID search for what TGID was actually broadcasting. My scanners all came up with SDFD dispatching on TGID 5015. On the few times all the other TGID's lit up on dispatches, the 5015 TG would also work....work meaning it stayed on 5015....as i am typing this 5015 was hearing SDFD, but all three other TG's were silent. Can't find TGID 5015 in the database for SD City TRS....what gives?

5015 is a status bit. The talkgroup is 5008. The +7 status bit is multi-select. Which model Uniden do you have? You can turn status bits on/off on most, if not all, of them I believe.

I have 396 and 996 XT's.

Do I just need to turn status bits off? What is the point of putting a feature in a scanner that makes it not recieve...confuses me.

OK, I just got my 3 996XT's tonight, and had status bits enabled. I disabled status bits on all systems, now the scanners are working properly.

Out of curiousity, what features or functions are you supposed to get with status bits enabled?

Status Bits

As an example, I've programmed in talkgroups and their associated derived talkgroup+status bit as two separate channels, so I know when they're using Multiselect (common for tones). I set a different alert tone on these talkgroups to let me know when dispatch has initiated Multiselect.
